Pool Salt Calculator
Convert the desired salinity increase into a salt mass for a known pool volume. The calculator reports the theoretical dose and keeps current salinity separate from the equipment target.
How to use the Pool Salt Calculator
Enter pool volume in US gallons, current and target salt concentrations in ppm, and salt-product purity.
Review the salt-cell manufacturer’s permitted range, test accuracy, existing dissolved salt, and bag size.
Read the required salinity increase and theoretical salt mass in pounds and kilograms.
Formula
Pure salt mass (lb) = pool gallons × max(target ppm − current ppm, 0) × 0.0000083454. Required product mass = pure salt mass ÷ entered purity fraction; kilograms use the same result converted from pounds.
Example
Raising a 10,000 US gal pool by 1,200 ppm at 100% purity requires about 100.15 lb, or 45.42 kg, of salt.
Assumptions and limitations
- The model assumes the entered pool volume and salinity readings are accurate and that added salt disperses uniformly without water replacement.
- Pool Salt Calculator treats the entered values as estimates and does not infer missing project, account, or personal details.
- Calculations retain working precision except where the cited method requires an intermediate rounding step; displayed values are then formatted separately. Source rules and dated rates must be rechecked when they change.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Pool Salt Calculator work?
Pure salt mass (lb) = pool gallons × max(target ppm − current ppm, 0) × 0.0000083454. Required product mass = pure salt mass ÷ entered purity fraction; kilograms use the same result converted from pounds.
What information should I enter in the Pool Salt Calculator?
Enter pool volume in US gallons, current and target salt concentrations in ppm, and salt-product purity, then verify the salt-cell manufacturer’s permitted range, test accuracy, existing dissolved salt, and bag size.
What should I verify before using this Pool Salt Calculator result?
The model assumes the entered pool volume and salinity readings are accurate and that added salt disperses uniformly without water replacement.
