How to use the Absolute Value Calculator

Enter a calculation mode and either one finite real number or two finite real-number points.

Review the numeric sign, decimal entry, finite-value requirement, and the intended real-number domain.

Read the nonnegative absolute value, or the point distance and signed difference.

Formula

|x| = x when x ≥ 0 and −x when x < 0. For points A and B, signed difference = B − A and distance = |B − A|.

Example

For points −3 and 5, the signed difference is 5 − (−3) = 8 and the distance is |8| = 8.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Inputs are evaluated as finite real numbers; symbolic expressions, equations, inequalities, coordinate-plane distance, and complex values are not supported.
  • Absolute Value Calculator treats the entered values as estimates and does not infer missing project, account, or personal details.
  • Calculations retain working precision except where the cited method requires an intermediate rounding step; displayed values are then formatted separately. Source rules and dated rates must be rechecked when they change.

How does the Absolute Value Calculator work?

|x| = x when x ≥ 0 and −x when x < 0. For points A and B, signed difference = B − A and distance = |B − A|.

What information should I enter in the Absolute Value Calculator?

Enter a calculation mode and either one finite real number or two finite real-number points, then verify the numeric sign, decimal entry, finite-value requirement, and the intended real-number domain.

What should I verify before using this Absolute Value Calculator result?

Inputs are evaluated as finite real numbers; symbolic expressions, equations, inequalities, coordinate-plane distance, and complex values are not supported.
