How to use this calculator

Measure the length, width, and installed depth.

Select the preferred volume and weight units.

Confirm the allowance and supplier density before ordering.

Formula

Order volume = area × depth × (1 + allowance). Weight = order volume × bulk density.

Worked example

A 5 m × 4 m area at 50 mm depth is 1 m³. With 10% extra, the order estimate is 1.1 m³.

Assumptions and limits

  • Default density is 99 lb/ft³ and is editable.
  • Default extra material is 10%.
  • Moisture and compaction are not predicted.

Frequently asked questions

Why does wet sand weigh more?

Water fills pore space and increases mass, so supplier density or a measured bulk density is more reliable than a general default.

Can I use metric and US customary units in the Sand Calculator?

Yes. Unit changes convert the same canonical measurement; they do not reinterpret or round your original value.

When does the calculator round?

The calculation keeps full precision internally and rounds only the displayed result. Whole packages are rounded up at the final step.
